World Sailing bid process for 2028 Summer Paralympics revealed by IPC • Live Sail Die

Excellency – The Paralympic Games should be the highest level of competition for every sport, with the participation of the best athletes in the world.

The diversity – The Paralympic Games offer athletes with different types/ranges of impairment the opportunity to compete within a program of events that ensures the participation of athletes with high support needs and provides opportunities for male and female athletes .

Universality – The Paralympic Games include athletes from all regions of the world, representing as many National Paralympic Committees as possible.

Integrity – The Paralympic Games feature well-run, clean, fair and safe competition, with excellence in judging and officiating.

Durability – The Paralympic Games present parasports with a depth and strength of pitch that ensures high quality events from one edition of the Paralympic Games to the next.

World Sailing has set out a series of strategic priorities in 2020 to support the growth of parasailing by 2023. These focus on:

  • Increased global participation to 45 nations on 6 continents.
  • Increase the participation of young people (under 30) to 20% of the total number of athletes.
  • Increase the number of female participants to 30% and ultimately achieve gender parity.

Focusing on diversity, inclusion, affordability, development and increasing the number of open and parasailing events are all part of World Sailing’s framework to build on the success of parasailing. The Para World Sailing 2020-23 strategy can be viewed here.

“We strongly believe that our parasailing strategy is closely aligned with the IPC guiding principles and that we can meet the criteria set out in the IPC questionnaire,” said Graham. “It has been made clear to us today that the IPC Board will take a much more active role in deciding which sports enter LA28, and they are looking not just at factual evidence, but also at a solid narrative. to support the Paralympic movement.

“Everyone starts from the same position, no sport is guaranteed a place and we can absolutely demonstrate that Para Sailing is one of the most inclusive, diverse and universal sports on the planet today. Ultimately, the IPC Board of Directors will decide which sports will be included in LA28, whether or not a sport meets all of the established criteria.We will do our best for our community to ensure Para Sailing is reinstated. at LA28,” Graham concluded.
