BLUE HILL — It may be a hard sell, but summer is almost here.
Last week, registration opened for summer sailing and rowing courses at the Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club, even though there is still ice in Blue Hill Harbor.
KYC will offer two separate programs through the nonprofit Kollegewidgwok Sailing Education.
Rusty Duym Community Sailing Week runs June 24-28 and is open to the entire Blue Hill community. Classes will teach introductory seamanship, boating safety, boat rigging and basic boat handling. Children in grades 3-8 will sail on Optimist dinghies; high school students and adult sailors will sail on 420 sloops.
The sailing lesson week costs $50 per participant. It is made possible through donations to the Rusty Duym Memorial Scholarship, which honors an inspiring member of the Blue Hill community who was a passionate and capable sailor.
Registration is also open for the KYC Sailing and Rowing Summer Courses which, from July 1 to August 16, offer a variety of opportunities for children and adults.
