Sailing classes

Private sailing lessons for adults offered this summer at the Wiscasset Yacht Club

For adults wishing to learn the art and science of sailing, this is your course. As with any art, it takes time to establish this skill.

The exact content is customized based on the participants’ knowledge and comfort level. They will cover everything from why sails work to the specifics of how they work. Terminology, boat handling, safety, sail trim, basic weather, knots, rudimentary navigation, history and some sea stories will be covered. You may be ready to solo in light air by the end of these lessons.

Basics / Intermediate level – for non-members, $250 plus a nominal fee for base classes/members $175 per class to support the WYC sailing program (preference to attend will be given to members as openings are limited)

Preconditions: Initiation, rigging and ground lessons, and ability to swim (if required, we will incorporate introductory lessons into private lessons at no cost to members). Choose your schedule – weekdays: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (bring lunch) from June to September starting the week of June 13, offering 12 hours of lessons according to your appointment .
