CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – On Thursday, July 22, Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo will announce the winner of the J22 Radio Controlled Sailboat Regatta. This unique event is part of the 2021 J22 World Sailing Championships taking place this week on Corpus Christi Bay. Three smaller versions of the J22 were built for radio-controlled racing. There are only three of these 1/6 scale versions.

Twenty-seven boat captains from the full-size J22 sailboats were entered into a draw to compete using the smaller sailboats. The final race will take place Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the boat basin next to the Corpus Christi Yacht Club. Immediately after the race, the winner of the unique regatta will receive one of the J22 radio-controlled models as the top prize. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Corpus Christi Sailing Foundation.

“I am thrilled to see this unique boat race taking place in our beautiful bay. This event further illustrates the versatility of our marina and the types of events we can host,” said Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo.

This year’s event is organized by the Corpus Christi Yacht Club.
